Google Sky allows students to explore astronomy from a whole new perspective. There is no longer any need to take students to a planetarium, Google Sky brings the planetarium to your classroom or home. Google Sky can also be used to complement a pre- or post-field trip to a planetarium for assessment or making connections with other astronomy topics.

Real imagery from the Hubble Space Telescope is stitched together with imagery of the rest of the sky to give your students a unique experience.

Applications of Google Sky

Use the Life of a Star layer to take your students through a star’s life-cycle, from birth to death.

Use the Planets layer to examine planet trajectories and retrograde motion.

Use the User’s Guide to Galaxies to learn more about galaxies.

The sky above your location will appear as if students were looking up from their own backyards.
