The best problem solving activities for students are when they are connected to real world situations.

Textbooks typically portray word problem solving situations that are canned or unrealistic in the eyes of students.

One approach to getting around this problem is to present problem solving situations using videos.

Math Video Strategies

  • Download video such as the following and play for the students using a Smartboard or Interactive White Board. The video is stopped at key points to allow students time to solve the problems prior to preceding to next segment.
  • Embed a video similar to the above in a math class Wiki for students to review for homework or prior to a test.
  • Using a video similar to above in a web-based learning center.
